Former Mayor of Whitby, Jim passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Marjorie (Rints); son David (Sharon); Donald (predeceased); and three grandchildren: Candace (Adam), Brittany, and James; two great-grandchildren: Jeremy and Avery. He was a long-time member of the Whitby Kinsmen Club. He served as President of the club 1962/63, District 8 Governor in 1964/65, and he was proclaimed a Life Member of the club in 1968. Jim was also the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedicated services to peers and the community. Jim was a very humble and private person, and those who knew him were familiar with his witty sense of humour and love of life. Many thanks to Lakeridge Health Oshawa doctors and nurses for their excellent care and compassion. A memorial visitation for Jim will take place at W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby, on Sunday, the 23nd of June, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s United Church, 201 Centre Street South, Whitby. Please contact the funeral home for further details.
