Obituary for
Roy Larry Galick
Galick, Roy
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Grand River Hospital at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Gienia. Loving father of Dion, Rohry, Fabian (from his first marriage) and Jamie and Sean (Kristy). Proud Grandpa of Stacia, Danika, Jonathan, Amelia and Bailey. Dear brother of Ed (Alfrun), Elaine (Richard – predeceased), Linda (Mike), Elizabeth, Thomas, Michael, Robert (predeceased) and Carol. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families. Roy was owner/president of Galick Packaging Equipment Ltd. that he and his wife started in 1987. Roy retired in 2015 and was extremely proud to have his son, Sean, take over the family business. He couldn’t completely stay away and would show up and eagerly offer a helping-hand on any project that his son was working on. Prior to that he worked as plant manager for Kitchener Beverages for over 10 years. Roy kept very active: riding his motorcycle, fishing with his sons, golfing with his wife, boating and RV’ing with family. He belonged to a shooting range. He enjoyed cooking and gardening. He would plant a garden with dahlias which reminded him of his mother’s garden. He loved to paint and gave some of his oil landscape paintings to friends and family. Roy was a skillful handyman: he could renovate, restore, replace, repair and build just about anything. Every year Roy would moose hunt with his son Jamie and childhood friends on the property he owned up north. He was proud of the men his sons Dion (Thunder Bay), Rohry and Fabian (Surrey, BC) had become. Roy was a prankster and a joker. He had extraordinary wit and a marvelous sense of humour. He took delight when someone would stop him in order to read his (1 of 100 plus) humorous t-shirts. His hearty laugh was contagious. He could also be a strong force to deal with. His advice « don’t poke the bear ». Roy had many true and loyal friends over his lifetime. Roy survived lung cancer in 1996 defying the 6 months he was given. With amazing strength and resilience he pulled through many major issues and minor mishaps; we believed he was invincible. He joked that « Heaven was not ready for him and the devil did not want competition ». He is now in the arms of the angels. Roy was a remarkable man who enjoyed life on his own terms. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Roy’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2019 and from 12:30-1:15 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
