In Loving Memory
It is with deep sorrow our family announces the passing of Ronald Doege, B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education), B.A. (Bachelor of Arts), Voc. Ed. (Technical Vocational Teacher Education), A.M.E. (Aircraft Maintenance Engineer), on Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Foothills Medical Centre Special Service in Calgary, AB, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was 51 years old.
Ronald is survived by his mother, Irmgard Doege (nee Luther), father Ralf Doege, young sister Deborah Deanne Doege Kraus (Marlin), nephews DeMar, Mason and Logan. Ronald was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 4, 1967. Throughout his life, for reasons of education, training and employment, Ron had lived in several provinces which included Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. He was a caring, compassionate, generous, helpful, humourous, passionate and respectful man with strong traditional values. Ron would do anything to help those he cared about. Ronald was an old soul with a big heart that continued to support family and friends until the day he passed away.
After a short career as an automotive mechanic, Ronald decided to pursue a career in the aviation industry and obtained his Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (M1, M2). He was an endorsed fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft mechanic for over 25 years, involved with several companies including Air Canada. Ron then focused on his final profession as an Educator. Aviation, English, History (Social Studies), Mathematics and Mechanics were his favourite subjects to teach. Ron’s hobbies included automobiles, motorcycles, movies, music, shooting, traveling, coaching and officiating sports. Ronald also enjoyed walking with his dog and exploring areas that he had never before seen.
Ronald traveled to many different places during his life and created some wonderful friendships with the people that he met. Whenever possible, Ron enjoyed taking road trips on his Harley Davidson motorcycle throughout Canada and the United States. Occasionally, he drove one of his restored vehicles instead of flying or riding his iron horse. These adventures brought great happiness to Ron. Ronald’s final journey on earth involved his return to Winnipeg from Calgary to be buried with family and friends that passed away before him. We have been blessed by Ron being in our lives. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
The Doege family wishes to thank the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Foothills Medical Centre doctors, nurses and support staff who treated Ronald with kind, professional and compassionate care. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the family, friends, Lutheran Pastors (David Lowe, Annemarie Macintosh and Kevin Powell) and Ron’s former students (parents) that supported him while living with cancer.
A memorial lunch will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at SS106, 824D Edmonton Trail, Calgary at 12:30 p.m.
A Celebration of Life Service for Ronald Doege will be held at a later date at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg (Tel 204 885 9715). Interment will take place following the Celebration of Life.
