It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of Riccardo at the age of 90.
Riccardo was born in Fontanafredda, Italy. In his teens he delivered bread on his bike to homes and sometimes was confronted by German Soldiers at gun point to surrender his goods. Soon after WWII he immigrated to Canada in 1950. He found work at Cominco and worked in the smelter, retiring after 33 years of service.
He met the love of his life Doreen & married in 1957. Together they had 2 sons & enjoyed many years of travels to Italy, Switzerland, France & Reno. As a family they were always active, hiking, fishing & camping all around the Kootenays in their cherished Baby Blue Chevy Van.
Riccardo loved any reason to have a party & with Doreen by his side had many celebrations at their home. He taught his sons how to build almost anything out of very little supplies. He loved to listen to Opera at deafening volumes!! He will be known for his countless words of wisdom & phrases.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Doreen of 62 years of marriage, his sons; Allan (Carmen) and Ken (Gila), grandchildren; Ken (Linnea), Candace (Wayne), Amanda (Nick) and Ian (Sam), great-grandchildren; Mason, Morgan, Porter and Traytin, niece Angela, nephew Louis, his sister Dolores and many relatives in Italy. Riccardo was predeceased by his parents Antonio & Luiga, siblings Pietro, Luigi, Sergio and Paola and his granddaughter Alyssa.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 10:30 am at “Carberry’s Chapel”, 1298 Pine Avenue, Trail with Father Francis dela Cruz, Celebrant. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
