ROONEY, Patrick Francis
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of the late Betty. Cherished father of Jennifer, Brendon, Jacqueline, & Monica and their spouses. Dear grandfather of six grandchildren & three great-grandchildren. Patrick will also be sadly missed by his many other relatives & friends. Pat was Born in Hilltown Northern Ireland and immigrated to London England where he meet his beloved wife Betty. Together with their two children they set off for Canada in the mid 50’s and settled in Toronto. He built a carrier as a trade unionist working for OPSEU. Pat dedicated his life to supporting worthy causes and obtaining justice where it was due. During the 70’s and 80’s he worked tirelessly in support of prisoners in Long Kesh and the injustice in Ireland. After retiring he founded the Emerald Isle Seniors Society in order for Irish seniors to remain close to their roots and maintain their cultural heritage in their later years. During this time he was also President of the County Down Association and the Irish Canadian Aid & Cultural Society for a period. The family will receive friends at HERITAGE FUNERAL CENTRE 50 Overlea Blvd., 416-423-1000 on Tuesday, May 7 from 2-4 p.m. & 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m. at ST. ANSELM PARISH, 1 McNaughton Rd., Toronto. An interment to follow at Mt. Hope Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences & directions may be found at www.heritagefuneralcentre.ca
