Milton Brian Carrigan
After 90 years of life, Milt Carrigan passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
Milt was one of the most unique individuals you would ever meet. Did you know he was voted “Best Baby” at the St. Vital Fair in 1929? Milt was a good athlete and played many sports. He spent two years in Scotland playing hockey and enjoyed telling us the story of when he was voted “Rookie of the Year” with the Falkirk Lions Hockey Club in 1949.
Working at Great West Saddlery, Milt gathered the skills to begin a very successful career as a travelling shoe salesman starting with Bata in 1959, and as he would then say, « the rest is history”.
Milt missed his older brothers Doug and Jack, who died too young and his sister Pat Frittenburg. His mother Agnes, lived until she was 94 and his love and care for her still resonates with his children.
Milt was happiest at the cottage at Brereton Lake that he and Alice built in 1954. He was so disappointed that he wasn’t going to get back there again to complete the projects on his list with Geri, the love of his life for over 42 years. So many memories are of time spent at the lake enjoying what he created, nurtured and treasured.
Milt had to endure the sadness of losing his eldest child, Patti in 2014. Greg, Wendy, Christine, Stefan and granddaughters Melissa, Samantha and Freyja will miss his sense of humour. Milt had a wonderful circle of colleagues, friends and family over the years who enjoyed receiving his creative cards in the mail. He is the only person we ever knew who bought stamps by the roll.
Milt chuckled to know that he had an outstanding debt to buy a round for his buddies. Cheers!
Thank-you to all the healthcare providers that cared for Milt over the years and his short stay at the Victoria Hospital. We continue to have such appreciation for the incredible and difficult job they do.
Per Milt’s wishes there will be no funeral. If you so desire a donation to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Milton Brian Carrigan 2019..
