Margaret « Peggy » Evelyn MacDonald Adams passed away
peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2019 in the Richmond Villa, St.
Peter’s, Cape Breton at the age of 104 years.
Peggy was born on June 24, 1914 in Barra Head, Cape Breton. She was
the last surviving member of nine children born to William Augustine
MacDonald and Bessie McKenzie MacDonald.
Peggy lost her mother tragically at a very young age. She,
along with her brothers and sisters were cared for by the kind people
of St. Peter’s and surrounding area. After some difficult
years, Peggy and her sister, Anna was loving accepted into the home of
John Allan MacDonald and Jessie Campbell MacDonald where she remained
until she entered the Richmond Villa in St. Peter’s. For 25
years, Peggy was the Chief Operator for MT&T running the St.
Peter’s office. This did not stop her from getting involved
in the community working with organizations such as; Canadian Red
Cross, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation,
Royal Canadian Legion Br. 47, Canadian Kidney Society, Canadian Girl
Guides, St. Peter’s home and School Community Club, Catholic
Altar Society, Bonnie Brae Senior Club,. On Remembrance Day, she never
failed to show up dressed in her Ladies Auxiliary Branch Beret and
carrying her husband Jack’s medals on a pillow, and would
lay a wreath on his grave.
She will be dearly remembered for her love of music and her
ability to bring the room alive playing the piano. If she
wasn’t playing the lively Inverness Gathering, it may have
been the beautiful Telephone Waltz. For many years, she spent time
accompanying the Catholic Church Choir during Sunday Mass. Often she
would hold choir practice in her home. We can’t forget the
Scottish Ceilidh held in her home with musicians like the great Buddy
MacMaster, Winston « Scotty » Fitzgerald, Simon Cremo, Theresa
and Marie MacLellan as well as her brothers. Peggy accompanying them
on the piano.
She and her husband, Jack raised a family of seven children.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack (1986) and her six
brothers, Jack, Rannie, Harold, Percy, Fredrick, Walter and two
sisters, Beatrice and her baby sister, Anna.
