Lorraine Nelsa (Cruickshank) Colborne
1935-2019
On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, Lorraine Nelsa Colborne passed away
peacefully, surrounded by family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital
in Sydney, NS.
Born February 27, 1935, in
Sydney, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Elizabeth
(Petrie) Cruickshank.
Lorraine possessed beauty, brains, and a loving heart. She
loved her family and friends and spent most of her life selflessly
helping others. Her faith was an important part of her life and was
always evident in her thoughts, words, and deeds. She was a registered
nurse, trained at the City Hospital in Sydney, and particularly
enjoyed her time teaching maternity nursing in PEI.
Lorraine will be sadly missed by her sons, Fred (Peggy),
Calgary, Tom (Susan), Sydney, Hugh (Jocelyn), Halifax, and Stuart
(Elizabeth), Lower Sackville; brother, John (Shirlee), Pt. Edward; and
her adored grandchildren, Erin, James, Chelsea, Amanda, Jeremy,
Adrienne, Bailey and Jack.
She was
predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Harold (Hal); sisters,
Minnie, Josie, Frances and Catherine; and brothers, Dr. James
« Bud », Bill, Jim and Nelson.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, May 19
from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday,
May 20 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society or Bethel Presbyterian Church.
