Obituary of Joan Rennie Thomas
With heavy hearts, we the family announce the passing of our beloved sister Joan Thomas (Tupper) and also affectionally known as J.R. dearly loved wife of M.Dale Thomas of Aylesford. Joan passed away at home on May 12, 2019, after a very courageous battle with A.L.S (Lou Gehrigs). She was the youngest daughter of Thomas M. Tupper and Ella L. (Joudrey) Tupper of Nicholsville.
Joan showed great courage and faith as she was cared for lovingly by her husband and two daughters, as well as members of her immediate family. She very much enjoyed her Wednesday morning tea with her brother Roger. Joan was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to many.
She is survived by her husband Dale; daughters Marsha Brown (Darrel), Lorraine E.Thomas; grand-daughter Jacquline; grand-sons Michael and Lucas Buskel(Jessica); sisters Marilyn Wilson, Linda Bowlby, and Gail white all of Aylesford; brother Roger Tupper (Margaret) of Nicholsville. Joan also leaves behind forty nieces and nephews and fifty great nieces and nephews, as well as the large extended Thomas family of Dales brothers and sisters, spouses, children, and grandchildren.
Joan was predeceased by her parents; five brothers Allison, Arthur, Mylon, Lawrence and Freddie; two sisters Marjorie Robar and Ruth Spence.
Joan’s home was always open to visitors. She was a wonderful cook and loved to try new recipes. She was a seamstress, knitter, rug hooker, poet – a very capable women. Joan worked alongside Dale in his business for fifty years, always supporting and encouraging. She was a deep thinker and had great religious faith, reading her bible every day. She loved her family dearly and was most happy when she had a family picnic or any an excuse for any type of get together. Joan had a great love for all animals, especially her fussy pets over the last few years. Her dogs Molly and Maggie have been a great comfort to her.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be at a later date, private interment in Aylesford Union Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to ALS Society of Canada or charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).
