Latimer, Gary
Gary Latimer passed away peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre surrounded by his family on April 20, 2019 from heart failure after complications of aspirating pneumonia and COPD. At the time of his death, he was showered with love and compassion. Gary was the son of Jack and Maggie Latimer (from Rutherglen) and was an Optometrist by trade. He was a son, sibling, husband, father, grandfather, etc. He loved watching sports and news on TV and listening to a variety of music and relaxing with his wife Shawna and spending time with family.
There are many people (and a feral cat named O’Malley) who will miss Gary and have stories to share of his life (’cause he repeated so many of them). The family will be hosting two celebrations of life; the first on June 8th in North Bay and the second on June 22nd in Ottawa. Gary wanted us to have a family-style picnic with the music that he enjoyed most over the years playing in the background as we enjoy each other’s fellowship. Those wishing to attend who may have been missed on a private invitation, should contact Shawna Latimer.
Often I heard Gary say, « None of us get out of this life alive, so live happily. » Gary’s cremation has already taken place at the Whispering Pines and his remains are with his second wife, Shawna.
The family has already recognized the care and professional fortitude of the C3 staff and a donation to the foundation was made in his memory with a Golden Heart Award through the Grateful Family Program. If people are thinking of a way to remember Gary, a donation to the NBRHC Foundation to support Palliative Care in Gary’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
