Frances’ Obituary
JAMIESON, Frances Ethel (Garner) of Wallace, NS, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Gables Lodge, Amherst at the age of 100. Born February 5, 1919 in Sturton by Stow, Lincolnshire England, she was the daughter of James and Ethel (Naylor) Garner. Her family immigrated to Canada when she was 10 and settled in Amherst Head. In 1939, she moved to Wallace to work and she spent the rest of her life in the area. Frances married Danny Jamieson in 1941, raised a family, and lived in her own home until the age of 97. She was devoted to family, and took pleasure in helping raise three generations of children. She crossed Canada and the Atlantic Ocean many times to celebrate special family occasions, and to connect with loved ones and her roots. At home, Frances was involved in both St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and St. John’s United Church for decades. She was a member of the United Church Choir for 37 years, and a lifetime member of the UCW. She served as Secretary-Treasurer at St Andrew’s for 32 years. She loved to sing, and performed with Betty Murray’s Tatamagouche Area Singers and with Morley Bentley’s Northumberland Chorale. Frances had a strong faith. She always rejoiced in the wonders of nature and the simple things in life. She will be fondly remembered for her youthful spirit, her positive attitude, her sense of style, and a hearty appetite. Frances is survived by six children: Florence (Ken) Stemo, Rimbey, AB; Edward Jamieson, Mission, BC; Roberta Sellick (James Simpson), Oxford; Kathleen (Ron) MacNutt, Wallace; Ethel Margaret (Bill) Jamieson-Seal, Bayhead; Jamie Garner (Gabriella Farkas), Oxbow, SK/Budapest, Hungary; as well as eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was loved dearly by these and many other extended and honourary family members and friends. Frances was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Danny Jamieson; her second husband, Borden Embree; her parents; her four sisters: Laura, Mary, Joyce, and Naomi; her four brothers: Robert, Harry, Geoffrey, and William; and her grandson, Jason Sellick. Frances felt blessed to be able to remain active and engaged throughout her long life. Sincere thanks to those who supported and cared for her during her later years – in the community, at East Cumberland Lodge, and at Gables Lodge. A service and reception celebrating Frances will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 28th at St. John’s United Church in Wallace. Please wear bright colours in her honour. Connie McNamara will officiate; interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances’ memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mundle’s Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the funeral home website at www.mmcfunerals.com
