Cynthia Billy

Cynthia Billy, beloved wife of Alex Billy of Canora, SK, passed away on May 4, 2019, at the age of 79 years.
Cynthia, the youngest of four children, was born on March 13, 1940, to Larry and Josephine (Siganski) Sakundiak on the farm, north of Veregin, SK. She attended grades one through eight at Veregin schools, high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, SK, and graduated in 1958. Cynthia furthered her education at Saskatchewan Kelsey Institute, Saskatoon, SK, where she completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program, prior to obtaining employment at the Canora Union Hospital, Canora, SK. Cynthia met Alex Billy of Canora, and the couple was united in marriage at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kamsack, SK, in May 1962. Their son, David, was born in April 1963 and daughter, Debbie, in July 1965. Cynthia worked in the family business with her husband Alex for 53 years. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Parish and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Parish, Canora, SK. She loved both parishes, attended daily Liturgy as often as she could, held parish council positions and the church deep within her heart. She prayed the Holy Rosary and will be remembered for keeping others in her thoughts and prayers. Her kind and caring heart and her gentle disposition will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Cynthia was predeceased by her parents, Larry and Josephine; brothers, Ben in 2008 and Edward in 2015; sister, Genevieve Berezny in 2015; and her sister-in-law, Susan Sakundiak in 2001. She is survived by her loving husband, Alex; son, David (Veronica) Billy and granddaughter, Megan; daughter, Debbie Billy and granddaughter, Jessica Howard, all of Saskatoon, SK; sister-in-law, Stephanie Sakundiak of Calgary, AB; and her brother-in-law, Bill Berezny of Saskatoon, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Vigil of Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2019, and Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2019, both from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Canora, with Rev. Fr. Franklin Emereuwa, as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Cynthia Billy.
