Sweet sister, Barbara Ann Bloch-Gower, went to frost wild thing cakes and chargrill organic vegetables and bake cherry oatmeal cookies for a more universal audience, May 11, 2019. Born to Alf and Doreen Bloch, June 6, 1957, Barb’s life was an artful dinner party filled with the friends and family she loved and fed with a fervor rarely matched in a kitchen, where appetizers were a bounty, soups silken, « entree » meant enter and behold three main courses and desserts towered heavenward. Her generosity and love kept scores of people — otherwise a random, sometimes clashing collection of spices — together for decades in her great recipe for life. Barb is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Lonnie, brother Jim, sister-in-law Pattie, sister-in-law to Terry & Luanne Gower, mother-in-law Judy, and a quartet of now mournful cats, Bob Dylan the Bug, Lulu, Jethro, and Buttercup.
Barbara loved life and spent hers learning, mentoring others and giving generously of herself. She enjoyed sharing her many natural talents. Barbara’s passion for fine food meant providing excellence, no matter what obstacles were faced – and those were many in the catering and food industry. Running multiple businesses, serving food for thirty-five plus years, provided Barbara with much joy, but her true motivation was giving everyone who worked with her or with whom she worked for, the best part of herself and making their experiences special. The legacy she gave in her ‘made from scratch’ philosophy lives on in all those she touched.
Those fortunate enough to have had Barbara as a friend, you know how lucky were. In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there is no formal celebration of life. Her desire was for you to spend time with your loved ones, enjoy yourselves and the memories you have of her.
Barb was a presence and a personality that could fill a room. She was legendary and wherever you knew Barbara from, be it her initial years in Michigan, the health food store in Grand Bend, the pizza shop, bakery, deli, ice cream, her cakes, or perhaps your wedding or a Christmas dinner she made….know she loved, giving her best to everything she did. Barbara will be sadly missed by all her friends and by all who knew her.
