It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Anne-Marie (McCaskill) Morrison, on May 16, 2019 at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Barb was born on July 31, 1938 to the late James and Cecile (Berrigan) McCaskill, and was the loving wife of 55 years to husband, Jim Morrison.
Born at Otter lake, NB and growing up on Grandview Avenue, she attended East Saint John School and Mount Carmel Academy, from where she graduated in 1955. Following graduation, she went on to enjoy a happy 43 year career as an executive assistant at Irving Oil, where she made many life long friends who became like family to her.
Barb was actively involved in Stella Maris Church, as a member of the CWL and served on the parish council. She was also very active in Can-Cope, counselling cancer survivors, and the Irving Oil Alumni Association. She enjoyed many hobbies such as needlepoint, crocheting and rug hooking, and her home is decorated with many of the results, but she will best be remembered for her excellent cooking and baking skills. Her greatest joy however, was always her family, and Barb loved spoiling Jim, her sons, grandchildren, and often large housefuls of family and friends with her wonderful cooking and baking. Christmas was always an extra special time for Barb. In addition to weeks of baking, she would spend days decorating a beautiful revolving tree with her large collection of Christmas ornaments, and her enormous Christmas Eve feasts for family, friends, and neighbours will never be forgotten.
Following her retirement in 1998, Barb and Jim spent every summer at their favourite place, the cottage at Stanhope PEI, where they enjoyed being surrounded by their PEI family and friends. There was nowhere Barb would rather be than at the cottage, and her favourite thing to do was wander the beaches on PEI’s north shore, hunting for beach glass, and other “treasures”, which she did daily for many, many years. The cottage is decorated with many beautiful articles she made out of the beach glass.
In addition to her husband Jim, she is survived by her sons, Dr. Jeffrey Morrison (Dr. Diane Liscumb) of Quispamsis, and their children Ian, Maggie, and Owen; and James Andrew Morrison (Celeste Coles), and children Nathaniel and Isaac, of Charlottetown PEI; brothers Raymond McCaskill (Cathie), and Kevin McCaskill; sisters Claudette McCaskill and Millie Mitchell, and chosen sister Kathy Vautour, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel and Ralph (Butch) McCaskill.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). In keeping with Barb’s wishes, there will be no visitation, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11 AM from Stella Maris Church, with a time of fellowship to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, her family would appreciate donations to be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
