Memorial Donation
John Loewen Rempel, age 91, of Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully early on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.
He is survived by his beloved wife Eleanor and their three children, Millie (Todd), Reginald (Kim) and Pam (Kent); grandchildren: Avery, Amy (Josh), Charity (Jamey), Mitchell (Becca), Kyle (fiancé Alexandra), Jaden, and Kelsey; great-grandchildren: Cole, Reece & Rowan, Jude & Maxwell.
John was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Helena Rempel, one infant child, two sisters and several in-laws.
John was born on May 13, 1928, in Rosenort, MB. All his schooling took place in the Greenbank School right next door to their farm. John’s teen years were spent on the family farm learning about seeding, harvesting as well as mechanics to keep everything running. He met Eleanor (Elly) as a teenager and claimed it was love at first sight-or shortly after!
John accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at age 19, was baptized and became a member of the EMC. John and Elly were married in the Rosenort EMC church in November 1950. His farming was supplemented with mechanic work, a baling business, driving a school van and work for the Morris-McDonald school division.
Their first two children were born deaf, giving John and Elly a unique challenge and opportunity in parenting. John and Elly also experienced the loss of a full-term baby one day after birth. Millie and Reggie went to Tennessee for college where they both eventually married and settled down. Over the years, many trips South were enjoyed. John and Elly were blessed with a daughter in 1966. That year John bought the Rempel home place and farmed until he retired in 1998. They moved into the town of Rosenort for ten years and later moved to Steinbach to be nearer to Pam and her family.
John was a church usher for 20 years. He was a man of integrity and generosity. He was a very sociable person. No person he met was a stranger for long! He loved to tease and had a good sense of humour. John loved golfing, fishing, camping and curling.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., with devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. Viewing also at the chapel prior to the service.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with interment after the reception at the Rosenort Cemetery.
Thanks to Dr. Krahn, Dr. Janz, and the rest of the dedicated Bethesda team for their care for John. Thanks to the home care workers and friends and family for their support.
