Florence Maxine Shanks
1930-2019
Florence Maxine Shanks – age 89, of Wolfville, Kings County,
passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in the Windsor Elms, Falmouth.
Born in Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Clara
(Jessop) Weatherbee. She had been employed in the kitchen with the
former Paramount Hotel, Wolfville and returned when the property was
developed into Landmark East School. She was a member of the Royal
Canadian Legion, Dr. C.B. Lumsden Branch No. 74, Wolfville and was a
Past President of the Silver and Gold Club. She enjoyed taking bus
trips, traveling, baking and especially enjoyed decorating wedding
cakes. She is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Wesley) Mitchell,
Lower Wolfville and Bonita (Lewis) Carter, Gaspereau Lake; a son,
Barry (Hope), Centreville; two brothers, Calvin Weatherbee and Willie
(Jenny) Weatherbee; two sisters, Marilyn (Alan) Weisner and
Marina Murdoch, all of New Minas; three grandchildren, Trevor, Douglas
and Salina; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband,
Burton Shanks; a sister, Shirley Leeman; brothers, Albert, Louie, Earl
and Ernest. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
The funeral service, followed by a reception will be held at 1:00 p.m.
Friday, May 24, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville,
Reverend Ellen Hunt officiating. Burial will take place in the
Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be
made to the Kidney Foundation or Windsor Elms. Funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
