Jeanette (Jet) Crane of Margaree, formerly of Sydney Mines, died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 19, 2019, three months after her 100th birthday.
Born in Sydney Mines on February 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Amanda (Ling) Butts. Jeanette was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish Sydney Mines and St. Patrick’s Parish Margaree. She was a dedicated, lifelong member of the Catholic Women’s League of both parishes.
Jeanette and Bernie had a wonderful retirement in Margaree where they made many friends.
Jeanette is survived by her children Jeanne (Bob) Francis, Bernie (Laurolea), David, Basil (Brenda), Bill, Paul, Fred, and Mary Alice (Scott) Denton.
She will be missed by her grandchildren Jonathan, David, Meghan, Brandon, Matthew, Andrew, Lindsey, Karen, Tristan, Jordan, Erinn, Jacquelyn, Brenna, Meredith, Cailin, Gillian. Also surviving are her 16 great grandchildren Rex, Estelle, Brady, Levi, Sebastian, Olivia, Bronsen, Brighton, Austin, Parker, Preston, Braydon, Finnley, Jameson, Brenna and Liam. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Mom was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Bernie Crane in 2015. She was also predeceased by her sisters Kathleen Stubbert, Gwendolyn Butts and by her brothers Bill, Fr. Basil, and Adrian, and by her granddaughter Sarah.
We, the family would like to acknowledge our brother David for his love and care for our mother for the past three years. He was steadfast and committed.
Visitation in St. Patrick’s Hall on Friday, May 24, 2019, from 12 – 1:45 p.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Macdonald Ibeh officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery with her husband. Reception to follow. If desired donations may be made to Palliative Care Cape Breton or charity of choice.
