Maureen was born in The Lizard, Cornwall, England on January 27th, 1944, to Pearl and Curling Laing, Curling joined the RAF 125th Squadron and was stationed in The Lizard when he met Pearl and Maureen was born. They left England, when Maureen was 2 years old, to set sail across the Atlantic to Pier 21 in Halifax, NS. After many stops along the way, they arrived in Norris Pt, NL, on February 27th, 1946. The trip that took them from England to Newfoundland was one that she was very proud to tell. When Maureen finished grade 11 she went to Summer School and did teaching. Her teaching took her to Bellburns where she met and married the love of her life, Doug. They had three children whom they raised in Norris Pt, NL, Stephenville, NL, and eventually coming back to Bellburns, NL, where she always wanted to live. For anyone when knew Maureen they would know how much she loved spending her time in her flower garden and it was one she took pride in.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Rufus Guinchard Health Center, in Port Saunders NL, for making Mom as comfortable as she could possibly be in the last days of her life.
In keeping with Maureen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
