Obituary for
Michael (Mike) Palylyk
On May 4, 2019, Michael (Mike) Palylyk of Edmonton passed away at the age of 77 years.
Mike is survived by his children, Nirah (Eric) Villeneuve, Tony (Miranda) Palylyk, and Karina Davies; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Sebastien, Kayla, and Keaton; sister, Louise Goodbrandson; Fern Jordan (the mother of Nirah, Leanne, and Tony), and his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his loving daughter, Leanne, killed by an impaired driver when she was eleven years old; sister, Cecile; brothers-in-law, Buddy and Merle; parents, Jean and Steve; and his racehorse, Gallant Tony.
Mike was born in Vegreville and grew up in St. Paul. After high school, he worked as a surveyor of the Great Slave Lake railway. Mike was later the superintendent of the PGE railway, and then worked in the oilfield, primarily for Pan Canadian, until starting his own company, Diamond Star Consulting.
A proud Ukrainian, Mike loved cooking but had an even greater passion for eating, especially sausage from Stawnichy’s. He loved gardening on his acreage and could identify any bird or tree. Known for his wisdom and wit, he had a great sense of humour. He loved to laugh. He was an avid stamp and coin collector, and took great pleasure in playing the stock market. He was a lover of Springer Spaniels and a voracious reader who read the Russian classics over three times. He enjoyed a good estate sale or auction, and had a keen eye for a good bargain. He enjoyed reading by the fire and wearing his slippers with his dogs by his side.

At Mike’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Inurnment in Peace Cemetery, Devon, AB. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made directly to the Leanne Children’s Foundation, www.leannechildrensfoundation.ca.
