Sandra Lévesque (nee Talaskavich)
November 27th, 1924 – April 1st, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Sandra Lévesque on Monday April 1st, 2019 at the age of 94 at the Extendicare Timmins. Sandra will be forever loved and missed by her son Michael (Barb) Lévesque of Chapleau, Ontario and her daughter Pauline (Martin) Ridge of Calgary, Alberta, her grandchildren Rebecca (Mark) Jemmett of Fordwich, Ontario and Sarah (Justin) Michaud of Timmins, Ontario and her great grandchildren Mackenzie Jemmett, Owen and Colten Michaud. She will be fondly remembered by sister-in-laws Velma Talaskavich and Pierrette Lévesque as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jean (John) H Lévesque in 2008 as well as her parents Wasil and Helena Talaskavich of Cochrane, Ontario, her brothers Bill (Edith) Talaskavich and Andrew Talaskavich and her sisters Annie (Jack) Gratton, Helen (Phil) Curley, Sophie (Andrew) Panchuck and Luba (Eugene) Robbins.
Sandra was very proud of the fact that she was born, raised and lived the majority of her life in Cochrane. She was born in 1924 and attended Cochrane Central Public School and Cochrane High School. She had a successful career as a schoolteacher starting in several small country schools in Binbrook, Ontario and Hunta, Ontario and retired from the Cochrane-Iroquois Falls Separate School Board. After retirement, she volunteered at the Cochrane Public Library. She was a Lifetime Member of the Catholic Women’s League in various Parish Executive roles over the years and also served as Diocesan President for the Diocese of Hearst for a time. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Women’s Auxiliary – Branch 89 and often volunteered for the CNIB. In the last few years, Sandra moved to Timmins to reside at the Chateau Georgian and later the Extendicare Timmins.
The family would like to thank the very hardworking and dedicated staff of both these facilities for the attentiveness, assistance and care they showed and gave to our mother.
Thank you Mom for your constant support, guidance and love. We love you….now and forever.
Relatives and friends are welcome to visit at Irvine & Irvine funeral home 149 Third Street West, Cochrane, on Friday April 5th, 2009 from 9:30 to 10:30 followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 11am at the Transfiguration Church with Father Sébastien Groleau officiating and reception to follow in the parish hall. The interment will be held at the Cochrane Civic Cemetery later in the spring.
