Patrick Gerald Tunney
May 21, 1933 – April 23, 2019
True to his unhurried nature in life, Pat peacefully closed his sparkling blue eyes for the final time at Northumberland Hills Hospital with his family at his side. Pat was the devoted husband of the late Birgit, and will forever be missed by his children Patrick and Colleen MacDonald (Bob). Pat was the beloved Poppa of Jamieson and Jake MacDonald, leaving them with many valuable lessons and memorable experiences to forever cherish. Pat was the last surviving Tunney of his generation and is predeceased by his siblings James (the late Gladys), Margaret, Kathleen and Paul (Rose). He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Pat was the most patient and kind person with a very easy-going nature. He could always see the good in people and was a friend to many. Pat was born and raised on the family farm on Shelter Valley Road in Grafton and lived there for his entire life. He was a lifelong farmer and had a true love for his animals. He was known to raise sought after beef and lamb and always had bountiful laying hens. He liked to garden and was proud to grow enough potatoes to last through the winter and often with some to spare. Many of his friends and neighbors would call upon Pat for help and he was always willing to lend a hand or advice.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation being held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E. in Cobourg on Thursday, April 25, from 7 to 9 pm. Parish Prayers to be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 8:45 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grafton on Friday, April 26, at 11 am. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Grafton with a reception to follow St. Mary’s School. Donations to St Mary’s steeple fund. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
