Lorna Dianne Boyer Mellish Tuesday April 2nd 2019

LORNA DIANNE BOYER
March 30, 2019 – April 2, 2019
Mrs. Lorna Dianne Boyer (nee Mellish), age 66 years, entered eternal life, after her valiant fight with cancer, on April 2, 2019 in Thunder Bay, Ontario (FYI cancer sucks).
Lorna was born on March 30, 1953, in Brisbane, Australia. Lorna is lovingly remembered by her husband Arthur Joseph Boyer and devoted daughters Kerith Jessie Boyer and Tessa Hope Boyer. The legacy of Lorna’s kind spirit, passion, and zest for life will live on with them. Lorna was predeceased by her parents Sidney and Vera Mellish.
Lorna was the fourth of six children; her loving siblings Linda, Lee, Colin, Lois and Chris. The children of English immigrants, as a family, they overcame many hardships and unique challenges to establish successful lives in a new country.
We are blessed to have learned many valuable lessons from Lorna’s sixty-six years; never say no to a houseplant, every dog deserves a scratch behind the ears, lasagna is loved by everyone, chocolate can solve almost anything, and there is no such thing as too much tea.
From an early age gardening was always a passion for Lorna. She was happiest with her fingers in the dirt, exploring new colours and smells and discovering new plants. One of her great joys was watching her garden blossom over the summer. Upon moving to Thunder Bay, Lorna had the great pleasure of meeting and volunteering with the ladies of the Hope and Memory Garden. This brought great joy to her life as she was able to share her passion of gardening with a wonderful group of new Canadian friends.
Lorna worked for many years as a registered nurse. In that capacity she touched the many lives of her patients and their families. Her most rewarding time was working in the Special Care Nursery providing comfort and care to those most vulnerable in this world.
Lorna’s interests include family, quilting, gardening, reading, traveling and exploring nature. Lorna’s interest in quilting led her to create beautiful works of art for her children and soon to be grandson. There is nothing Lorna enjoyed more than an interesting conversation, with a good friend, and a great cup of tea. Lorna was an avid traveler. Exploring the corners of this world with her husband, daughters and solo. She shared many stories of adventures, tight scrapes, rocky roads, lush hotel rooms and decadent spas that she had experienced along her way. Some of Lorna’s happiest times was when she was planning her next getaway, or regaling you with her stories from some far-flung corner of the world she had just returned from.
Lorna was a free spirit who, with her family, spent time living in Australia and Canada. Moving back and forth between both. Most recently Lorna and Arthur retired to Thunder Bay to rediscover the joy of the four seasons and spend time in Arthur’s beloved home town. To experience Canada at its natural best, Lorna and Arthur purchased a log cabin on Lake Isobel. They spent many happy hours enjoying the water and making friends with the local chipmunks.
Her smile, quick wit, and love for life have been taken from us too soon. She will be reunited with her family in the kingdom of God.
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Lorna Boyer will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 11:00am in St. Paul’s United Church, Thunder Bay, Ontario with the Rev. Randy Boyd officiating.
