Lily Amilda Schultz
December 01, 1926 – April 11, 2019

In loving memory of Lily Amilda Schultz who was peacefully called home to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on April 11, 2019. Lily was born in Wanda Backus, Poland, and immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1929 at the age of 2. The family first resided in Springside, Saskatchewan, where they lived with relatives, before finally settling on their own homestead in Dinorwic in 1930. In her early years, Lily was responsible for looking after her younger siblings, cooking meals, cleaning the house, picking blueberries and helping her dad cut wood. When she was 16, she cut 8 cords of wood by herself, and used part of the proceeds from the sale of the wood to purchase a bicycle of which she was extremely proud. When Lily was 18, she worked at the Bates Bags division of the paper mill in Dryden.
Lily married Edmund Schultz on September 28, 1946. Shortly after, they moved to a homestead on the Turgeon Road. Their daughter, Marilyn, was born in 1949. In 1950, they purchased and moved to the Holmes property which was closer to Dinorwic. The property offered lake frontage that gave them easy access to water for their cattle and garden and for recreational use. Their son, Ron, was born in 1953. For a brief time in 1970 and 1971 Lily worked at the tree nursery at Wabigoon.
Lily was very active in her church life at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dinorwic where she has been a member since its inception in 1940. She said that there was something missing in her life if she didn’t worship on Sunday morning. She also regularly cleaned the church, looked after the communion ware, and hosted many bible studies.
Family time was always important and was one of Lily’s greatest joys. She took pleasure in hosting family get-togethers whether it be a wiener roast at the lake or a more formal gathering for a special occasion. Lily always had time for playing cards or boardgames with the adults and especially with her grandchildren.
Lily loved the outdoors. Dinorwic lake provided many opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, and picnics at a special beach. Lily took pride in her gardening skills and looked forward to the first meal of fresh produce from her vegetable garden each summer. She also spent many hours arranging stones, hauling soil, and planting various flower seeds to perfect her flower rock garden.
In 2002, Lily and Edmund moved to Dryden, where they lived until their respective passing’s. Even though they lived in Dryden, they had many cherished memories of their lake property and the time they lived in Dinorwic.
Lily is survived by her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Peter Tilley, granddaughter Dawnelle (Adam), great-granddaughters Regan and Cora, and grandson Stuart; her son Ron and daughter-in-law Gail Schultz, granddaughter Candace (Phillip), great-granddaughter Hannah, and grandson Darren (Katie). She also is survived by her sister Linda Smith and brother Arnold Schultz. Lily was predeceased by her husband Edmund in 2006, her parents Sigmund and Lydia Schultz, and siblings Amanda (Connie) Neely, Hilda Flint, Gerhard Schultz, Martha Dunn and Erwin Schultz.
A funeral service celebrating Lily’s life will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Dryden with Pastor James Wood officiating.
Cremation will follow and interment of ashes will take place in Dinorwic at a later date.
