It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Lucien Martin, surrounded by his loving family, at Ridgewood Veterans Wing on April 25, 2019. Butch was born on February 3, 1944 in Baie Ste. Anne, NB to the late Ernest Elmer and Imelda (Chaisson) Martin.
Butch was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces with the Royal Canadian Regiment for 30 years, finishing with the rank of Warrant Officer. He enlisted on April 25, 1963 and retired on April 15, 1993, dedicating his life to the service of his country and it gave him a great sense of pride. Joe completed various tours of duty all over the world including Cypress, Iraq and Bosnia. He will lovingly be remembered for his love of animals and his love of the outdoors, never missing an opportunity to go for his long walks or to work in the garden. Joe loved spending time with his family and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially Kathy, Greg and Emily Chase.
He is survived by his son Joseph “Joey”, his brother Al and his sister Patricia Tayes, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Sandra Saunders and his brothers Brian and Gerald.
Joe’s family would like to give special thanks to Ridgewood Veterans Wing for their care and compassion given to Joe during his time on Liberty Lane.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). A Celebration of his Life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 2pm, beginning with a Legion Tribute Service. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery. The family would like any donations to be made to the SPCA Animal Rescue League, the Wounded Veterans Fund, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
