Obituary of Grace Stirling
Stirling, Grace (nee Bennell) “Gracie”- of New Scotland, passed away at her home on Thursday April 25, 2019, at the age of 94.
Beloved wife of the late Murray Stirling (d. 1988). Loving mother of Douglas Stirling of New Scotland, Glen (Louise) Stirling of London and Bryan (Linda) Stirling of New Scotland.
Sadly missed by her granddaughter Janine (Matt) Myers of Ridgetown. Great-grandmother of Mason and Sage.
Grace is the oldest sister to Audrey (late John) Campbell of Port Franks, Thomas Bennell of Ridgetown, the late Murray (d. 2016)(late Robin (d.2008)) Bennell and the late Alan (d. 1994) Bennell. Dearest sister-in-law to Diane Bennell of Charing Cross and Lenore (Len) Cook of Comox, B.C..
Grace is the aunt of David, Kathy, Sara, Paula, Susan and Cathy.
Predeceased also by her parents Thomas (d.1956) and Grace (d.1999) (nee Stewart) Bennell.
Gracie was born in Ridgetown on November 18, 1924. She married Murray Stirling on December 20, 1953 and farmed with him until his passing. She then farmed with her sons up until her passing. Her greatest passion was taking care of her family and the farm. This included driving tractor, taking grain moisture samples, mowing her lawn and selling firewood to campers nearby. Grace was a member of Erie Street United Church. She was a lifetime member of the UCW and served as treasurer for the Afternoon Unit for 20 years. Her talents of sewing, bookkeeping were always enjoyed.
Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East Ridgetown on Sunday April 28, 2019 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday April 29, at 11am. Burial to follow in the family plot in the Morpeth Cemetery, Morpeth.
