George Albert Craig
Beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, George Albert Craig (May 17, 1935 – April 14, 2019), passed away suddenly Sunday evening. He will be tremendously missed, as his life and presence are irreplaceable. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Craig, his joy and inseparable companion for over 60 years. He also leaves behind four daughters and seven grandchildren: Martha and Greg Bondy (Eric and Murray), Mary Lou and Vilhelm Vegh (Aaron and Leigha), George and Christine Drew (Hannah and Corrinn), and, Garth and Elizabeth Hipkin (Stephanie). Born and raised in Amherstburg, Ontario, and living most of his life in Windsor, George was an unassuming asset to the community. He showed kindness to everyone he met, being able to bring quick witted humour in all settings and situations. He embodied happiness and walked with a bounce in each step, whistling every tune with accuracy. He could recall to the note full musical pieces, pause to say hello, and then resume where he left off, all neatly organized in his uniquely gifted mind. This brought him to the attention of CBC where his interview exemplified his unmatched gift in whistling. He played the trumpet with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, many local events with big band, and other musical performances. He worked at Comerica in Detroit, Michigan, and responded to the US Military draft in 1957. He and his wife moved to Germany where he was posted to Aschaffenburg for two years. George was also a skilled woodworker, turning his home into a little Neuschwanstein of beauty. Everyone knew him for his easy-going nature, positive attitude, and optimistic outlook on life. He cherished his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. A private family service will be held.
