It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle and friend Akayihkini, Francis Ralph Crowchief (Spike) @ the age of 48. Spike leaves behind his children Daryl(Rennette), Tyler(Adele), Delanie, Tamara, Tara (Issac), Carl(Jasmine), Nick(Kobe), Joseph Cameron, and Shania. His siblings; Kelly(Cheryl), Tommy Jerry, Leo(Maureena), Rufus(Yvonne), Deanna(Bruce) Leanne(Jon), Louise(Jason) and Debbie(Dwight). Aunties; Isabelle Olivier and Christine Little Chief and Uncle Andrew (Carolyn) Bear Robe. 16 grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces whom he took as his own children. Spike was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Bridgette Crowchief, his sisters Penny and Brendi Crowchief; his adoptive parents, Leo and Alma Pretty Youngman, Grandparents George and Delores Crowchief, Joe and Annie Catface.
Spike is the youngest of his family and was born into a cultural traditional family. His beginnings in life taught and instilled in him about our Creator Apistotokii. He started dancing when he was 3 years old and travelled to many pow wows winning not only trophies but the hearts of many. He was always the tough guy that included sports such as long distance running and boxing. Eventually, Spike found his passion with horses and learned how to handle them to the point of them being saddle horses. He was involved as part of the trainers for the Thoroughbreds at Uncle Leo’s and he enjoyed every race meet they went to. While living there he learned farm work and was heavily involved with harvesting. Because Spike loved his horses, he got involved with the Rodeo circuit in Wild Cow Milking, and his famous Wild Horse Racing which he could write a book of his many injuries. He was a member of Na Soo Wa Society Riders, Blackfoot Boxing Club, Deerfoot Raiders, A-1 Club, People of Calgary, IRCA, Alberta Racing Commission and Canadian Professional Wildhorse Racing association. He proudly rode as on of the original Na Soo Wa Society from Siksika to Castle Mountain and did that for several years after. In 1990 his journey in life took him to make his Cursillo in Browning, Montana. Spike worked for many years in the Construction Industry in Calgary which he was very proud of. Spike was a very humble kind-hearted person that got along with everyone and anyone he met. He held his cousins as his very own Brothers and Sisters and often visited them. Later in life he took the city of Calgary as his home where he met many people that he cherishes and loves. Life never held him down he was very resourceful where ever he went. Spike loves each of his children and was very proud of all their accomplishments and he looked up to his big sister Leanne for everything and his role model Kelly. He always wanted to follow his foot steps.
The family would like to thank Rocky View Hospital, ICU unit nurses and Unit 94, as well as the Alpha House Encampment Team and DOAP Team and his friends the City Police for taking care of him in his last days.
The wake Services will be held at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour in Siksika Alberta on Wednesday May 1, 2019 @ 2:00pm for family and will open at 6:00 pm for the public. The Funeral will be held on Thursday May 2, 2019 @ 12:00 at the Holy Trinity Parish Church in Siksika, Alberta. After the burial the family would like to invite everyone to the Gordon Yellow Fly Arbour for one last feast for Spike.
