He is also survived by his sister Dawne Gordon, brother-in-law Dave Currie, sisters-in-law Arlene Percy & Anita Cameron, as well as numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Donald & Verna, sister Margie Currie & brothers-in-law Hugh Gordon and Rick Percy.
Boyd was born September 23rd 1944 in Winnipeg and grew up in Dauphin and Winnipeg.
He met Gail in 1966 and on August 19th, 1967 they were married in Winnipeg. In 1972 they moved to Edmonton where he began working for Lehigh Inland Cement. In 1980, they relocated to Richer, where he moved into Cement Sales, from which he retired in 2009. During his many years with Lehigh, he made many friends, both customers and co-workers, many with whom he was still in contact long after his retirement.
He was a lifelong fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Black Hawks, and when Chicago won the Cup in 2010, he did something he rarely ever did – went online and bought a hat at full price! He was always looking for sales and deals, and was darn good at it!
His love of hockey and golf was passed on to his kids, and all played both growing up.
He was involved on the minor hockey board in Ste. Anne, a member of the Steinbach & Area Lions club since 1981, serving in many capacities. Many lifelong friends were made during this time. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Richer, as well as an elected LUD member.
In 1992, they moved to Ste. Anne, where he resided until his passing.
In retirement, he couldn’t sit still, so he worked some part-time positions, with his last as a courier driver for Steinbach Credit Union. Otherwise, he was found at his “second” home – Oakwood Golf Course, or any other course for that matter!
Boyd & Gail also spent the last few years travelling in the States, every year they would hit a different area – they have been to Texas, California, Arizona, Louisiana, Tennessee – they even were able to get a round of golf in at Angola Prison.
In the spring of 2015, he had a health scare and spent a few weeks in hospital, everyone figured he may only get a couple of golf games in at the end of the season – but stubborn as he was, he recovered quickly and was swinging a club only a couple of months after surgery.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Golf Course, Municipal Rd 41 E, Ste. Anne, MB with reception to follow.
