Passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25th, 2019 in Sudbury.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Marian (nee Mac Kenzie), his son Peter (wife Kerry Anne) and daughter Suzanne Rothe. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Connor, Renee and Rose. Dear brother to Inge Mussmann in Altena, Friedhelm (Brunhilda) in Finnentrop and Horst (Waltraud) in Bochum, West Germany. Uncle to Monica, Uwe Rothe (Ulrich), Petra Pasher (Frank), Andreas Mussmann (Steffi) and Martin Mussmann (Silvia). Great uncle of Nico Dieter and Phillpee, Jasmin and Oliver Mussmann.
Dieter was born on March 1st, 1936 in Schwartzhof, West Prussia, Germany to Max and Hedwig (nee Knorr) both predeceased. They moved to Altena, West Germany after the war. Dieter moved to Canada in the spring of 1958 settling in Sudbury. In 1959 he started his career with INCO, working on many sites and jobs over the years. Prior to coming to Canada, he had become a qualified brick layer and stonemason. He was an avid hockey fan, pilot, scuba diver, volunteer, enjoyed travelling in Canada and coast to coast twice, fishing at his hand built camp on Deer Lake, writing and a great friend to all he met. His biggest hobby was building his own Gyrocopter at home.
Visitation at the Lougheed Funeral Home (252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, Sudbury) on Sunday, April 28th, 2019 from 2-4 pm with prayers and words of remembrance starting at 4 pm. Reception to follow. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. Donations the Northern Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
