Powell, David B.
David B. Powell, age 85, peacefully passed away at Parkwood Palliative Care, on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, after a 5 year struggle with amyloidosis. Dave was the beloved husband of Rosemary (Downey) for 61 years. Loving father of Michael and Shannon, of St. Thomas, Thomas and Monique of Lambeth, and Edward and Christine of Bobcaygeon. Proud grandfather of Ashley (Peter Bernard), (late Douglas Walker), Leah, Jacob, Leslie and Owen Herman, Nathan (Julie McCuaig), Mathew and Bryan and his great grandchildren, Rachel and Trevor Walker and Hailey Rose Herman.
Survived by his sister-in-law Laura Powell of Peterborough. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas (1958) and Marguerite (1984), brother Thomas (2004), sister Carol Gregory (2009) and brother-in-law Robert Gregory (2011). Brother-in-law of Patricia (late Marte) Baro, Fairborn,Ohio; Charles (late Carol) Downey, Calgary; Dominec and Betty Fox (late Ann), Lindsay; Lynda (late James) Downey, Downeyville; Robert and Catherine Schram, Chatham and Ian and Carol McIntosh, Stoney Creek. Dave worked for the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for 38 years. He was born in Toronto and moved to Bobcaygeon as a teenager. Dave enjoyed his cottage there for many years – building, boating, fishing and hosting family gatherings. Gardening, amateur wine making and square dance were his favourite hobbies.
Friends may visit at the McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, 2240 Wharncliffe Road, South, Lambeth, (519)-652-2020 on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 2 – 5 p.m., where the celebration of Dave’s life will take place Monday, April 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
