It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Anna Jachnowicz on Sunday March 31, 2019 at the age of 95.
She was predeceased by her husband Piotr and survived by her daughter Veronica and son in law William Bohotchuk. Grandchildren Bren-lee (Carl), Michael (Tannis), Jason (Kim), Daniel. Great-Grandchildren Cole, Parker, Greyden, Logan, Dylan and Kieron.
After the Second World War Anna moved to England where she met Piotr Jachnowicz working in the same cotton mill. They married in 1948 and had a daughter Veronica in 1949. Pursuing the opportunity to create a better life together they embarked on their journey settling in Winnipeg in 1952. The beginning was not easy as Anna took on jobs that would allow her the means to take care of her family. Anna worked on a farm, washed dishes and retired from cleaning buildings in downtown Winnipeg in 1993.
She loved spending time with loved ones during the holidays and get-togethers. Here everyone would gather around the table to eat, talk, and laugh, as this was very important to her. She loved her vegetable and flower gardens, which she always planted in abundance and shared with family and friends. She had a very special relationship with her Grandchildren. In the summer months there were many sleepovers at Baba’s house in the back summer kitchen including having a swim in the 40-gallon rain barrel outside. She will truly be missed.
Anna and Piotr always looked forward to travelling to visit their relatives in the “Old Country.” They would always bring extra clothing and shoes for family members with them on their travels. In Winnipeg on weekends Anna and Piotr enjoyed meeting up with friends at the Shashkevich Hall on Saturday for an evening of dancing and socializing.
Anna was cared for at Holy Family Nursing Home on Aberdeen and Main by a wonderful group of staff, doctors and nurses in the St. Francis dementia ward for the last 5 years. On behalf of the family we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude for the loving care of our Mother and Grandmother (Baba) Anna Jachnowicz.
Funeral service will be held Friday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street.
