Elizabeth Lorraine « Liz » Warren
1952-2019
She’s already dearly missed by Phil, her husband
and partner of 44 years; sons, Devin; Chad (Jenna), and Adam (Amelia);
and her grandchildren, Ashton, Evan, Hannah, Ethan, Lucy and
Alexander. Liz passed away suddenly at Murphy Lake on April 27, 2019
and we were not ready. We were not ready to say goodbye. We still have
more coffee to drink on the porch overlooking the lake, we have more
wine to drink and more laughing and teasing to do in the kitchen. We
need more pancakes and banana bread and second breakfasts. There are
crosswords to be done. We want more chowder and late night chats, and
we don’t have enough chilli sauce. We are not ready to say
goodbye. It isn’t bedtime yet. We want another story. Born
and raised in Antigonish, Elizabeth Lorraine was a citizen of the
world. She and Phil traveled in the best ways, always more interested
in meeting people and learning their stories than in the places
themselves. An avid reader, she eschewed kindles and tablets in favour
of books that she could turn the pages of late at night with a warm
glass of milk. She did embrace technology, particularly when she
discovered how easily she could share pictures of her grandchildren
and her oft worked garden in full bloom. Liz valued family over all,
and was the devoted daughter of Terry and Dorothy Thompson, a loving
sister to Gary (deceased), Sandra, Paul, Terry, Wayne, Debbie
(deceased), Len and Greg, and a favorite aunt to so many nieces and
nephews. She will also be missed by so many extended family members
and friends. It’s no surprise that she spent a large part of
her life helping other families, working with Big Brothers/Sisters as
a social worker in Hamilton and Kentville. Liz owned and operated
M&M Food Market in New Minas for 23 years, also volunteering
her time as a member of a number of service groups and clubs, such as
the Special Education Advisory Committee, the Rotary Club of
Kentville, and the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Mom’s motto was « sit long, talk much ». It actually
hangs above the window in her kitchen at The Murph. If you were lucky
enough to have visited Liz in her kitchen, you probably did. A
visitation will be held between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May
3, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. There will be no
funeral service, by request. Donations in memory may be made to
Brigadoon Village. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
