SUSAN KLIEWER (Nee HARDER)
In loving memory of our dear Mother, Susan Kliewer (nee Harder), who passed away on January 28, 2019 at Misericordia Hospital at the age of 90.
Susan was pre-deceased by her loving husband Frank Kliewer in April 1980. Susan will be sadly missed and forever loved and remembered by her children, Vic (Jean) and Irene (Doug), her grandchildren Kelly (Jason) and Alexandra (Daniel), four step grand-children and 3 step great grand-children. Susan is survived by 3 sisters, 3 brothers, many nieces and nephews and others who loved her dearly.
Susan was born April 16, 1928 in Neuenburg, Ukraine. She immigrated to Canada with her Mother, Maria Harder and 6 siblings, settling in Herbert, Saskatchewan. Shortly after that, the family all moved to Winnipeg. Susan met Frank and they were married September 16, 1950.
Susan was an active and faithful member of the Elmwood Mennonite Church since 1950. She loved her church ladies group which was a great enjoyment for her as they fellowshipped together and gave countless service hours to Church events. Susan worked for 12 years at Great West Life in the cafeteria and formed many valued long term friendships.
Susan loved to travel. She visited China, Japan, Egypt, Russia, Poland, Germany, Great Britain, Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, Panama and most of the United States. She particularly enjoyed the many family trips she took with her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful grandmother to her two granddaughters having babysat them as babies and toddlers and frequently looked after them at the cottage over many summers. Her joy was to play games for hours with them, baking pies and making perogies.
Susan was an avid reader, good bowler, fabulous baker and a gifted needlepoint artist. She was very competitive at card games, dominos and tetris. Most of all she loved being with her family. She loved taking care of them and learning about their hopes and dreams.
For the last 6 years she lived at Thorvaldson Retirement home. She loved the staff, enjoyed living there and developed many new friends.
Funeral services will be held at Friends Funeral Service on 2146 Main Street Winnipeg, on Monday, February 4 at 11 am.
