Obituary for
Shirley Dawn Facca
It is with profound sadness that her family announces the peaceful passing of Shirley Facca (Monaghan) of Timmins, Ontario, March 30, 2019 at the Timmins and District Hospital Hospice at the age of 85. She was born to parents John and Lillian Monaghan (Webster) of Schumacher and pre-deceased by her sisters Gail (Monaghan), Helen (Cliff Buchanan), Effie (Alan Stuart), brother Melville (survived by sister-in law Mary Monaghan). She was a proud and loving Aunt to 13 nieces and nephews. She married her loving husband Elio in 1957 and was pre-deceased in 1983. Shirley was a devoted and loving Mother to Paul of Timmins and Kim Clark (Tom) of Sudbury and a loving and proud Grandmother to Curtis (Windsor) and Emily (Sudbury). All of Shirley’s friends were very dear and special to her with some friendships lasting for eight decades.
Always more concerned about others before herself, Shirley had a joy of life she would extend to each and every person that she met. She was born and raised in Schumacher and once married “scaled down” and moved to Timmins. She was an employee of Air Canada for 24 years. Pre and post retirement she found the time to be an active volunteer in assorted community programs ranging from assisting the handicapped to fund raising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation just to name a few. Shirley took great pride in being active in the both the congregation and operation of the Mountjoy United Church and Project Love. This faith based community filled her life with a sense of an extended family with loving people that she cherished until her passing. Shirley’s “Curves Family” provided many moments of laughter and friendship that she also treasured. On behalf of Shirley, her children would like to extend sincere appreciation to her family physician and friend Dr. Larry Malo whom she held in high regard for his professionalism and compassion. That appreciation is also extended to Dr. Malo’s friendly and helpful staff. A special thank you to Dr. Alejandro Oliver and staff for their compassion and specialized care. She took great pride in voicing her opinion to the government regarding the need for additional ophthalmological care in Timmins and surrounding area. Shirley was enthusiastic in her praise for the many health care professionals inside and outside of the hospital that were involved in her care over the recent years. Their professionalism but most importantly their empathy provided comfort in trying times. Her brief stay at the hospice provided her and her family with a sense of piece and comfort to allow her to pass peacefully. Remembrance donations to Mountjoy United Church, Project Love or The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation through Lessard–Stephens Funeral Home would be appreciated.
As per her request a service and reception will be held on Saturday April 6, 2019 at Mountjoy United Church located at 202 Mountjoy, Street South in Timmins. The family will receive family and friends from 13:00-13:30 followed by church service from 13:30-14:00 and a reception to follow to celebrate Shirley’s life.
