In Loving Memory
of
Ronald (Ron) James Watson
83 Years
With great sadness the family announces his passing on March 26 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury.
Ron leaves behind his wife of 62 years Deloris (nee Hrynuik). Cherished father to Daniel (Shelley Nauha) and proud grandfather to Hannah and James.
Son of James and Mabel Watson (both predeceased). Dear brother to Marie Hopkins (Eric) (both predeceased) and Robert Watson (Eleanor).
Will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Ron was born in Toronto and grew up in the Annette and Jane Street area. He was an active boy, taking part in school athletics and working his first job as a bicycle delivery boy for a local drug store. Ron worked most of his career for General Electric and later CAMCO. He was determined and hardworking and he never allowed his lack of formal education to get in the way of success. Ron took on any opportunity that came his way. He drove a truck, worked the order desk, travelled Northern Alberta as a salesman, managed warehouses and eventually became distribution manager for Eastern Canada. His career took him and his family all over Canada, to Halifax, Edmonton and then back to Hamilton where he finally retired. Ron and Deloris finally found themselves in Sudbury when they moved to be closer to their grandchildren.
Ron continued to be active in retirement. He volunteered in driving patients to hospital appointments and delivering meals. He loved golf and when not golfing, he volunteered as course marshal at his local golf course. In Sudbury, Ron worked as a volunteer for Citizens on Patrol (COPS) where he made some strong, lasting friendships. He also enjoyed shooting pool with his buddies at the Parkside Centre.
Ron and Deloris also had the pleasure of many winter months as snowbirds in Texas, Arizona, Florida and North Carolina.
Ron was at his best when he was around others. He loved spending time with people, especially family and friends and he enjoyed hearing about their lives, adventures and accomplishments. He was also very proud of his grandchildren.
While small in physical size, Ron had an inner bigness that will be missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to everyone at the Maison McCulloch Hospice for the amazing care and comfort provided to Ron and our family. Your kind words, looks, touch and the wonderful food will not be forgotten.
There will be no viewing or service at this time. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.
Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated.
