Life Story for
Robert Thomas Twamley
Robert Thomas Twamley – November 4, 1945 – March 14, 2019
It is with sadness and relief that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Thomas Twamley in his 74th year, on the 14th of March, 2019. He is remembered by his three children, Robert Twamley, Michael Twamley (Donald Ainslie), and Angela Twamley. He is also remembered by his former spouses, Violet Twamley (nee Psaila) and Lesley Simpson, and his grandchildren Tyler Twamley, Meghan Vander Meulen and Matthew Vander Meulen. He is survived by his siblings in England: Irene Fereday, James Twamley, Susan Dowd (Bernard Dowd), and Geoff Twamley (Anne Marie Twamley), and many nieces and nephews.
In 1964 Bob, a tool-and-die maker, and his new bride Vi emigrated from England to settle in Burlington, where they started their family. They joined the COFFA Club, a group of overseas family and friends, establishing an active social network. Bob participated in local bowling and darts leagues, and also played on the Burlington Players softball team. Known as a gentleman, and a fun-loving social character, it was not unusual to see and hear him belting out Beatles songs at the local karaoke on Brant Street.
In 1998, at the young age of 52, Bob suffered a debilitating brain aneurysm that left him near death, but Bob had other plans. After several years of intensive rehabilitation and incredible support from Brain Injury Community Re-Entry Niagara and March of Dimes, Bob was able to live with dignity, and independently for many years. He spent his final years under the exceptional nursing care at Millennium Trail Manor in Fort Erie. Throughout these 21 years, the many nurses, support teams, therapists, and doctors often commented that Bob was well-liked and could, at times, display a cheeky sense of humour.
