Obituary of Retis Hasenpflug
Retis Muriel Hasenpflug passed away peacefully at Lee Manor in Owen Sound on March 10th, 2019. Predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Bill; her son, Peter and her daughter, Lynn. Loving mother of Jane Nixon (John) and Lesley Hayes (John). Loving grandmother of Lorie McGregor (John), Greg Church (Maria), Kathy Hasenpflug (Jose), David Hasenpflug, Michael Nixon (Cathy), James Nixon (Lee), Brock Leighton (Kirsten), Lindsay Leighton (Nick) and great-grandmother of Michael, Matthew, Jared, Sarah, Leah, Nikko, Ayden, Lily, Jack, Georgia and Cole. Born in Kimberley in the Beaver Valley, she went to school in Kimberly and later went to Northern Business School in Owen Sound where she worked for the Bank of Montreal before moving to Barrie where she met her husband Bill, who was stationed at Base Borden. Married in May of 1943 they started farming two years later in Caledon. From there they moved to Massey Harris Farms and finally to Dunkerron, where as a team they developed a very successful dairy business, which they sold in 1969, and moved to Barrie to enjoy many years of retirement. In 2008 they moved to Owen Sound to live out their remaining years, near their family. Retis was known for her great sense of humor, her spirit, a loyal friend, talented artist and most importantly a loving and caring mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Private Family Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Those wishing to a make a donation in memory of Retis may consider the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice and may be made through the BRIAN E.
