Obituary of Otto Piplack
Otto Oscar Piplack passed away peacefully at Kelso Villa Retirement Home in Owen Sound on March 27th, 2019, at the age of 93. Otto is predeceased by his wife, Marie “Mitzi” (nee Miarka); his parents, Ida (Trox) and Gustav; his brothers, Willi, Ernst and Gerhard. Otto is lovingly remembered by his nephew, Andreas (Judy) Miarka, his nieces, Christine Miarka and Therese (Joe) Murray; his 4 great-nephews and great-niece; his brother-in-law Adalbert (Christl) Miarka and his sister-in-law, Kathe Miarka. Cousin to Ulrich Karl Wischnewski, Elfie Olschewski and Werner Kewitz, of Germany. Otto’s love of family, his quiet humour and wisdom will be missed. Otto was born on September 1st, 1925, in Germany and immigrated to Canada as a young man in 1952. He enjoyed time with family and friends, traveling, boating, fishing, and sharing stories of his life in Germany and Canada. Among his many accomplishments was the building and operating of Kelso Villa Retirement Home with partners and loving friends of 30 years, Betty and Jim Hamilton. Always thought of as part of the Hamilton family, Otto will be dearly missed, especially at family gatherings. Deep gratitude to Dr. Veenstra for his compassionate and dedicated care towards Otto. As well, very special appreciation for caregivers Danielle, Wayne, Rebecca and Loretta, whose countless hours by Otto’s side gave him great comfort in recent weeks. Virginia and Justine, thank-you for providing reflexology and physiotherapy treatments with such compassion and kindness. Finally, special thanks to the entire staff at Kelso Villa who contributed so much to Otto’s life and happiness. Otto will be missed dearly by many good friends who have shared his company over the years including his dear friend, Karin Grillenmeier.
A Funeral Service for Otto Piplack will be held in the Chapel of the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Saturday, April 6th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. interment will take place on Sunday, April 7th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, Ontario M1K 1R1 (416-267-8229). In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation as an expression of sympathy.
