Mary Margaret (Storey) O’Neill
1948-2019
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Margaret
(Storey) O’Neill, wife of the late Matthew
O’Neill, announces her passing which occurred on Thursday,
February 28, 2019 at the Hospice House in Fredericton, NB.
Born on March 31, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Fred and
Alice (Arsenault) Storey, of Grand Bay-Westfield,
NB.
« If you want to change the world, go home and love your
family » – Mother Theresa, and that’s exactly what Mary
did. Mary had a smile that went through to the corners of
her eyes. Everything Mary did, and touched, was all about
love, even though she was dealt a very difficult hand in
life. She defined her life by the tremendous amount of love
she gave to her girls, which extended and grew to include her
grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Mary loved to make people happy through music, by playing
guitar, yodelling, and singing karaoke with a rye and ginger in her
hand.
Mary had a great love and compassion for animals and people
in need. She would often bring home stray cats, injured
birds, and people who needed a warm bed and a hot meal. No
one knew how to put love into baking like Mary, whether it was a
blueberry cake or pie of their choice with her infamous pie
crust.
Her sense of humour and zest for life were contagious. She
spent the last few years at Murray Lodge in Grand Bay-Westfield, where
she compelled the staff and residents to develop a strong and close
bond of friendship, and she shared her love to laugh and smile. She
added life to the care home, whether she felt good or
not.

Mary had a gift of turning friendship into family, especially
Joan from Titusville, NB; Bernice from Brockville, ON; Ruby from
Conception Bay, NL and Louise from Grand Bay, NB… just to
name a few.

Mary will be dearly remembered by her children: Fran Scott
and Janette O’Neill (Thomas Burns); grandchildren: Rebecca,
Jacob (Courtenay), Jayden, Ewan and Thaevan; great grandchildren:
Aaliyah and Eli; along with nephews and many friends.
Besides her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother
Frank Storey.
Arrangements are under the care of
Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111
Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). In keeping with
Mary’s wishes there will be no public visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 4, 2019
at 2:00 pm from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Road,
Saint John, NB. Interment will take place at St. Augustine’s
Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish remembrances
may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
