Floyd « Dave »‘s Obituary
CROSSMAN, Floyd David “Dave” ~ age 84 of Meadowvale, passed away peacefully with family around him on Saturday, March 23, 2019 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Parrsboro on February 20th, 1935 he was a son of the late Pauline (Leadley) Knowlton and his step-father, the late Aubrey “Aub” Knowlton. Dave was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was the beloved husband, best friend and soulmate to Anita (nee Longhurst) of Nottingham England for over 62 years and he loved his family dearly. Dave and Anita received congratulatory certificates in 2016 for their 60th wedding anniversary from Governor General, David Johnson and Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. Dave had a distinguished military career, receiving the C.D. Medal and Special Service Medal in 1994 from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He served in many countries and enjoyed his tours of duty in Langar, UK, Baden Soellingen, Germany; travelling extensively around Europe with his young family. He also had short term postings to France and Sardinia, Italy. Dave was fortunate enough to be on the first around the world flight originating from Trenton, ON. Dave had many interests and joys besides his family, including chess, bowling, music, blue Jay’s baseball and feeding the birds and critters in the back garden and pond. He loved his past pets and his present little Bichon, Sophie, who was his comfort and joy right to the end. Dave was a quiet and very good man, who was very much loved and he will be greatly missed. Besides his loving wife, Anita, Dave is survived by sons, Gary and Vernon; grandchildren, Derek (Julie), Greenwood; Mitchell (Lindsay) Halifax; Adam and Melissa, both of Lindsay, ON; great-grandchildren, Carlie, Ava, Sophie and Liam; numerous nieces and nephews; and cousins, Patricia Pryor, Truro and Katherine (Emery) Grant, Wallace, NS. Besides his mother and step-father, Dave was predeceased by his sister Eleanore and brothers, William and Donald. In keeping with Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will not be any visitation or service. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Paramedics, Dr. M. Broaders and all the nursing staff at Valley Regional Hospital, with special recognition to nurse, Shane and Kathy, in housekeeping, for the wonderful care and compassion given to Dave and our family. Also, a grateful thank you to Dr. Yafai for the nearly 40 years of excellent care and kindness provided to us while he was our family physician. We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the staff at Connect Hearing, Kentville for their good judgement, kindness and care.
