Obituary for Dora Lilian McDowall (nee Collins)
April 3, 1923 – March 2, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dora Lilian McDowall on Saturday March 2, 2019 at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill, Ontario, just a month and a day short of her 96th birthday. After many years of struggling with Alzheimer’s, thankfully the end of that struggle was peaceful.
Dora, the loving wife of her late husband John McDowall, will be forever loved and missed by herfamily Lynne Barone (Tony), Ken (Rita), Diane and the late Jim (Donna); her grandchildren Jason (Robert Wooden), Stacey (Rob Domagala), Natalie Fagen (Daniel), Jacqueline Barone, Stefanie; her great-grandchildren Weston and Elliot Domagala and Max and Sam Fagen and her many nieces and nephews. Dora was predeceased by her one beloved sister Peggy Hungate and her parents Elsie and Fred Collins, with whom we hope she is now reunited.
Dora, who was always “top-notch” or “on top of the world” will be remembered for her cheery disposition and fabulous smile. Even as Alzheimer’s was taking her from us all, that contagious smile and positivity stayed with her until the very end.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the staff at Elginwood Long-Term-Care for the care and kindness provided over the past 7 years and to the staff at Mackenzie Health for their compassion and kindness in Dora’s final hours.
While a private interment will be held in the coming days, those wishing to join her family in celebrating Dora’s life are invited to attend a casual gathering at the The Manor, 2395 Bayview Avenue, Toronto on Saturday March 16, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospital for Sick Children would be appreciated.
