Obituary of David Hale Young
David Hale Young, on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, surrounded by his family, Dave passed away peacefully in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1939, he was the son of Edward Cecil and Marjorie (Sheehan) Young. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his two sisters, Marion (Gordon) Reid and Carolyn (Joseph) Baff. He is survived by brother Paul (Butch) Young, Hantsport.
He was a very intelligent, passionate and giving man, offering a “notable” sense of humor to all who knew him. He was a devout Catholic, his faith being of extreme importance in his life, and was involved with many organizations within the church. Dave was a graduate of Wolfville High School and later graduated from Acadia University, earning his BEd and years later, his Masters. He taught at Wolfville High, later becoming a Guidance Counselor within the Hants County School Board. He was Superintendent of schools for many years and then succeeded as Inspector of Schools in Kings County until retiring in 1994.
He was a devout Boston Bruins fan, and throughout the years accumulated paraphernalia of his favorite hockey team.
He is survived by his loving wife Miriam (Mim) Van Kippersluis, Hantsport; son Timothy (Belinda, Truro); Patricia, Wolfville; and Jane (Doug) Crosland, Kentville. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, who learned valuable lessons, and received great encouragement; Ryan, Lance, Samson, Logan, Mallory and Jillian; and great-granddaughter Alexandria.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the St. Francis of Assisi, Wolfville. Father John MacPherson officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the NS Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, B4P 1E5 (902-542-4656).
