David Bruce Ells
1936-2019
David Bruce Ells was born April 6, 1936, in Amherst, Nova
Scotia, and died March 25, 2019, in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Son of Don
and Ona. Much loved husband to Philippa. Beloved father of
Gavin, Anna and Bruce. Happy-laughing grandfather to
Harrison, Karly, Sam, Alex, Anya, Tasha and Nicholas. He is also
survived by sister Donna and many nieces and nephews in Canada,
England, Scotland and Australia. Loud, jolly, and sporting the Black
Watch balmoral, his was a life of adventure. As a young
Lieutenant at Camp Aldershot in 1959 he met Philippa who was nursing
at the local Kentville hospital. He served for 37 years in the
Canadian Infantry in four provinces and many countries. That
service included peacekeeping tours in Egypt and Cyprus safely
bringing home a Company of soldiers from the Royal Highland Regiment
of Canada in 1967 and 3rd Battalion the Royal Canadian Regiment in
1976. David and Philippa retired to Canning, Nova Scotia. David was
active in Annapolis Valley politics and charities, and had a second
career at Veterans Affairs. A forceful Everyman with a winning spirit,
beaming energy, loved so very much by his family and
friends. He grabbed us all by the heart and will
be there always. A memorial service will be held at a later
date. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to the
Valley Hospice Foundation (www.valleyhospice.ca). Arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
