Obituary of Darrell Gregory Cleveland
Herring Cove. It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected death of Darrell Gregory Cleveland on March 27, 2019 at the VG Site, QEII surrounded by his family following a brief illness with cancer. Darrell was the youngest son of the late Gerald ‘Ace’ and Marjorie (Cook) Cleveland.
He was an active member of St. Peter and St. Paul Roman Catholic Parish in Herring Cove. He was very well known in the food industry having worked at IGA, Kraft General Foods, Sarsfield/Ready Bake Foods, Weston Bakeries, Gordon Food Service, and his own company Focus Food Brokers. Over the years he made many life long friendships in the business. Darrell earned his Black Belt in Chito-Ryu Karate. His real passion was playing the drums especially with fellow band members Marc Piccinin and Peter Myatt. He always put his family first and was a loving husband; proud and supportive father to his three children and delighted ‘Papa’ to his five grandchildren.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sheila (Moore), sons, Sheldon (Heather Stamper), Ryan (Sara) and their children, Chiara, Leo and Rebecca; daughter, Lauren (Tyler) McMahon and their children, Jaxson and Carter. Also survived by brothers-in-law, Gordon (Marlene) Moore, Michael (Kristina) Moore; sisters-in-law, Linda Reid, Janet (Terry) Moore and Linda Cleveland; several nieces and nephews and special niece, Lisa (Tim) Peacock. He was predeceased by brother, Barrie Cleveland.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Sunday, March 31 from 6-8 pm and Monday, April 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 11 am in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Interment will take place in Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
