Barry Wade Johnson, 56, of
Moncton passed away peacefully at home March
23rd 2019 surrounded by his loving family after
a courageous battle with ampullary cancer. Born in Fredericton on May
14, 1962, he was the son of Mona (Bainbridge) and the late Cutter
Johnson of Sackville, New
Brunswick.
Barry will be deeply missed by
his loving wife Kathryn (MacDougall) of 31 years of Moncton, and his
children: Mark (Sylvie), Stephen, Sarah, Leah, and Thomas. Brothers
Brian (Joy) of Courtenay BC, Terry (Trish) of Vernon BC, and Dan
(Wanda) of Sackville NB. He will also be missed by mother-in-law
Evelyn, brother-in-law Gardiner (Lee) MacDougall, sister-in-law Nancy
(Kelly) Corcoran, sister-in-law Carolyn Chasse (Philippe) and many
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter, and his
father-in-law, Charlie.
Barry grew up in a wonderful
home with four older brothers. They were known as « army
brats » as the family travelled from coast to coast with their
father’s work career in the Canadian Armed Forces. Once retired from
the Armed Forces the family settled in Sackville. Barry graduated from
Tantramar High School where he excelled in sports being named MVP in
basketball, soccer and Male Athlete of the year. Barry earned his
degree in Sport Science from UNB. His love for sports
science and injury began here, as well an interest in a special Island
girl who became the love of his life, Kathryn. Barry then went on to
earn a degree in Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University. Barry began
his work career in Moncton, with Kathryn at his
side.
Barry was a Physiotherapist
for 31 years in the Moncton area. He owned and operated his
own clinic, Johnson Physiotherapy from 1999-2018. Barry enjoyed the
challenges of his profession and he loved the close interaction he had
with his patients every day. He was known by many of his patients to
go above and beyond with his kind and compassionate care. Throughout
the years Barry had many return patients with whom he developed
lifelong friendships.
Barry loved the outdoors and
spent many hours with his father learning outdoor skills. He
introduced his children to camping, fishing, hunting, and canoeing.
Coming from a musical family Barry loved to sing and play his guitar
for his children and loved ones. Barry also participated for years in
the musical Easter programs, The Living Christmas Tree and the praise
and worship at the Moncton Wesleyan
Church.
As a member of the Moncton
Wesleyan Church, he also became involved in a variety of Church
ministries including children’s ministry, small group, visitation and
was a member for a number of years on the Local Board of
Administration.
As the children became
involved in a variety of sports, Barry began volunteer coaching with
Codiac Soccer and Moncton Kiwanis Basketball. His children developed a
love for hockey and so he became an avid « Hockey Dad ». Over
the years, the players enjoyed the popular team DVDs Barry would make
for them as a keepsake.
He has made a life changing
impact on his family, friends, and community and we will all miss him
dearly.
Special thank you to Dr. Harb,
