MARVIN: John Douglas – Veteran WWII
Passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2019, at the grand age of 95. John was living independently and still driving around town until he was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure on March 5. John is predeceased by his beloved wife Mona (d. 2014). He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Bonnie Marvin, and her daughters Vada and Ella; his son John Edward “Ted” (Anne) Marvin and their children Jeremiah, Patrick, Christopher, and Scott; his daughter Jane (Wayne) Redding, their children Elizabeth and Ken; and several great-grandchildren. John is predeceased by his siblings – Frank, Allan, Betty, Margaret, and James. John has been a resident of Peterborough since 1994, moving from Trent River. John was born in Belleville, Ontario where his mother’s family established Reid’s Dairy. Before retirement, he worked as an insurance consultant for Phoenix of Canada, in Toronto, living in Whitby. As well as several medals earned from his service during WWII, John recently received the Legion of Honour medal from France - the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits. He was a Knight (Chevalier) of the Légion d’Honneur. John has stayed active his whole life, traveling, gardening, fishing, dancing, socializing, weekly Tim Horton’s meet ups, and, of course, playing cards with his friends at Summit Terrace and for years as an active member of 428 Wing, Canadian Air Force Association. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough, on Saturday, April 6, from 2 – 4 pm.
