Robert « Bob » Bollert Cross of Simcoe, Ontario

CROSS, Robert(Bob) Bollert – Bob passed away peacefully at the Norfolk General Hospital , Tuesday, February 5th, 2019. Bob was born June 5th, 1933 to the late Myrtle Catherine Cross, nee Bollert, and the late Brock Charles Cross of Simcoe, Ontario. Bob was married March 29, 1958 to B. Elaine Cross, nee Evans. In 60 years of marriage, Bob and Elaine, together, raised two children: a son, Douglas Allan Cross (Laurent) of Waterford, and a daughter, Jody Ann Cross-Mahoney of Simcoe. Bob is survived by his brother/best friend Donald Brock Cross (Thelma-Kay) of Oshawa, and brother-in-law James Allan Evans (Shirley) of Burlington. Bob is predeceased by his beloved sister, Susan Berta (Gary) of Simcoe. Throughout his life, Bob was not only an avid sports fan, but an active participant. In 1951, Bob was awarded the Allan Hamilton Jackson Trophy for leadership, sportsmanship, and performance on the football field. Bob was twice inducted into the Simcoe Area Sports Hall of Recognition. First in 1997, together with the other team members of the Simcoe Giants hardball team, for the 1960 Ontario Championship title. Second, in 1999, together with the other team members of the Rasmussen Cleaners Junior softball team, for the Ontario Championship win of 1954. Bob was also an active member of the Norfolk Golf and Country Club Tennis Division from the 1950’s through the 1970’s, winning several club trophies. Soccer was also played a part in Bob’s recreational pursuits. Bob’s participation in sports was not limited to the summer months. In winter, Bob curled, playing in bonspiels throughout Southern Ontario. Bob was also active in the local badminton club. Bob’s interests were not limited to sports. He loved to sing and play “Stella”, his tenor guitar, as well as the ukulele. He was a charter member of the Simcoe Chapter of the Barbershoppers. During the 1950’s, Bob formed a quartet called the Tartanaires. In 1995, Bob was presented with a certificate of recognition by Her Worship, Mayor Rita Kalmbach, on behalf of the Town of Simcoe, for his over 45 years of business, The Tartan Coffee Shop, and adding to the community flavour through his participation in community sport s. Bob was a 70 year member of St. James United Church having joined in 1948 under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Sylvanus Edworthy. Friends are invited to visit at the FERRIS FUNERAL HOME, 214 Norfolk St. S., Simcoe on Thursday, February 7th, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Bob’s funeral will be held on Friday February 8th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from ST. JAMES UNITED CHURCH, 150 Colborne St. S., Simcoe. Reverend Barrie Bain officiating. Private family interment at Port Dover Cemetery.
