Peter Donnellan
1972-2019
DONNELLAN,
Peter James 46, of Mount Pleasant, passed away February 3, 2019 in
South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, with his family by his
side. Born in Shelburne, he was a son of Kathleen Donnellan and the
late Thomas Donnellan. Peter joined the Canadian Armed Forces, Army
division in 1991. His military career was ended in 1992 when Peter was
involved in a motor vehicle accident in Ontario, resulting in a
traumatic brain injury. Peter had gone for rehabilitation at the NS
rehab, Halifax, in LEIR Pennsylvania, and in Niagara on the Lake
Ontario, before moving home permanently in 1994 to a newly constructed
community based rehab home for the brain injured, that was created by
his parents Tom and Kathy, a safe haven. This facility, appropriately
named « Peter’s Place » opened up opportunities for
Peter and other brain injured participants. He resided in this home
for 24 years. Peter will be remembered for his infectious smile, his
love for music and animals, and winning at a game of cards. Peter is
survived by his mother Kathleen (nee Mackenzie); stepfather, Roy
MacQuarrie; sister Pamela; nephews Lucas and Logan; four uncles, Jack,
Bill and Phiip Donnellan and Richard Kennedy. He is predeceased by his
father Thomas; grandparents Richard and Mary Mackenzie, Paul Donnellan
and Kathryn Berrigan; his beloved foster grandmother Evelyn Boyle.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the R.A. Corkum
Funeral Home, Wileville, where a Celebration of Peters life will take
place from 2-4pm Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may
be made to the QE11 Health Science Centre Foundation for an ICU family
room established years ago by the Donnellans, in honour of Peter, on
floor 5.2 QE11 Foundation (www.qe2foundation) designated for fund
T-634 are requested. Memorial Cards available at the Funeral Home.
