Moritz John Ganser was born on June 1, 1928 at Rosenheim, Alberta to parents Moritz & Theresa Ganser. Moritz was one of seven children born to the family that included Adolph, Albert, Herman, Gerald, Marcella and Ullaine.
After completing school at Rosenheim, St. Joseph High School Edmonton, and graduating in Provost, Moritz worked travelling to rural farms that were affected by the drought to assess dried out bonuses. On February 26, 1957 Moritz married Elizabeth Weinkauf. This union was blessed with five children – James, Joan, Patricia, Earl and Elaine. Their family began on the Moritz A. Ganser’s homestead. In 1966, they moved to their farm outside of Provost, where they continued to raise their family.
Moritz’s interests included baseball, curling, hockey, farming, working as a mechanic, planting and maintaining the farm’s shelter belt, gardening, golfing and playing cards. In addition to these favourite pastimes; Moritz took great pride in being part of the legacy attached to the Rosenheim Historical Society.
Moritz and Elizabeth along with their family always enjoyed the best of farm life while being a well hit home run from town.
Surrounded by the love of his family, Moritz passed away on January 23, 2019 at the Provost Health Centre Long Term Care at the age of 90 years.
