Obituary of Margaret Siekierko
SIEKIERKO, Margaret Kennedy McKinstry
Margaret passed away on the morning of Feb 7, 2019 at the Georgetown Hospital. Margaret was born on May 30, 1931 in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland to Janet (nee Hunter) and Samuel McKinstry. As a young child, along with her two brothers, Wesley(deceased) and Kenneth (deceased) she experienced the hardships of World War 2 including for a short time, nightly bombings of near by Belfast ship yards. After finishing her education at the Glenlola Girls school, Margaret began her working life at the Northern Bank in Belfast. In 1956 Margaret made the decision to emigrate to Canada, settling in Toronto Ontario and working at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. During this time she met her husband Alfred Siekierko (deceased). They were married in 1959 and began their life together in Etobicoke. Margaret took the book keeping skills learned at the bank to help her husband operate his successful business, Aldon Construction, which she continued doing until his passing in 1993. In 1965 their family grew with the addition of their son Gregory (Louise). In 1973 the family relocated to Terra Cotta Ontario, where Margaret lived until 2006 when she moved into the Mountainview retirement residence.
Margaret is survived by her son Gregory and his wife Louise, her sister-in-law Evelyn Mckinstry, and many nieces and nephews. Our thanks to the staff of Mountainview Residence, the nursing staff and doctors of the Medical, Surgical department at the Georgetown Hospital for their care and compassion during Margaret’s time at both locations. Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. If you wish, a donation of remembrance to the Georgetown Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
